Graciliano Ruiz Gamboa expressed that the income from the ticket office “has helped them a lot” in the process of “beautifying” the stations of the Caracas Metro. He also indicated that in these 45 years of the institution, hard work has been done in terms of security within the 69 stations, including the “battle” they have with the informal economy.
The president of the Caracas Metro, Graciliano Ruiz Gamboa, reported this Monday, August 8, that the entire transport system is currently moving one million users a day, for which they keep some 5,800 employees working in the Metropolitan Area of Caracas. the state company, which according to their estimates is 60% of the workforce they need to have optimal operations.
In an interview given to VTV, Ruiz Gamboa stressed that there are approximately 3,000 retired workers from the institution, but that thanks to the “dot and circle” activated by the mayor of the Libertador Municipality, Carmen Meléndez, it has been possible to remedy the lack of manpower in tasks such as security, maintenance and operations. She explained that they are workers who live near the stations and it is understood that they “are theirs”, which enhances their maintenance and ensures a place close to the residence.
He stated that the current collection system in the Caracas Metro, which is 0.1 bolívares per ticket for the entire system -including the Metrocable and Metrobus- was a system devised by the workers themselves for its establishment and collection, describing it as “social and fair”.

When asked if that rate was enough for the Metro and its workers, Ruiz Gamboa asserted that in the subway “they adapt” to the rate and said that “we do not make an excuse for not complying” because there is a collection system to “improve” , as well as affirmed to have the support of the State and the Ministry of Transport.
He defended himself by saying that the income from the ticket office “has helped them a lot” in the process of “beautifying” the stations, which has allowed the creation of several work groups to carry out in-depth maintenance, painting, repair of stairs and the air system. conditioned.
He indicated that in these 45 years of the Caracas Metro, hard work is being done in terms of security within the 69 stations, including the “battle” they have with the informal economy. In that sense, he said that they agree with the activity but that it must be organized and outside the facilities. That is why they work on an awareness campaign to make them understand that they cannot sell inside the trains and platforms, as well as to emphasize to the user that they should not buy anything.
He hopes that soon they will be able to give good news to the citizens with the activation of the second section of Line 5 of the Caracas Metro, which goes from Zona Rental to Bello Monte.

He indicated that they are also working on a “reengineering” within the facilities that includes the repowering of trains. In his opinion, the fact that the transportation system remains operational despite “attacks” by opposition sectors and sanctions is already a victory for the Caracas Metro.
He stressed that there are currently 48 operational trains on all the lines in order to maintain and guarantee that waiting times are not so long, while stressing that thanks to “technological independence” it has been possible to recover 10 trains dating back 40 years and it is expected that another four will be recovered by the end of 2022, thus increasing the speed of passenger flow.
