President of the Association of Isapres and health reform: “Change must move towards a single health plan”

The president of the Association of Isapres, Gonzalo Simon, indicated that the health reform should aim at “a single health plan.” Simón issued these statements in a day of dialogue held at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Central University.

“The country requires an important health reform. In the private sector we have some problems that must be modified that are known to all and the public sector also has problems that it has to take care of, which are perhaps more relevant problems,” said the helmsman of the Association of Isapres in the day of dialogue , in which different authorities reflected on a new health reform.

“Very relevant reforms must be made, progress must be made in greater universality, in greater solidarity, in the search for greater access to health care for people and for that it seems to us that the change must move towards a single health plan that effectively the entire population of the country has social security access to a single health plan”, added Simón.

Along these lines, he explained that “this health plan has to be technically established through an instrument that determines the best ways to solve the health problems that the population is facing, but the fact that there is a plan does not mean that there has to be only one health institution that takes charge of that plan”.

“You have to allow the freedom that this health plan, which should be the same for all people, can choose between a public institution and a private institution,” he added.

The director of Fonasa, Camilo Cidand the senator Juan Luis Castro (PS), also participated in the instance.

Cid addressed the crises of the isapres regarding the Supreme Court ruling, which established that all health and complementary plans must apply the table of factors of the Superintendence of Health, which came into force in 2020.

“As part of the health sector, we were working to present the reform that is committed to in the government program and that, as of the ruling of November 30, has been seen in some way uninterrupted. We are going to address this, to solve this problem, to then continue this development and obviously in this solution new debates are opened, new edges that contribute to the subsequent discussion ”, he maintained.

Cid added that “there are financial problems that can be caused and some that are already being caused by the lack of financing or working capital. The private providers have indicated that there is a significant debt owed by the Isapres and that there is also a debt from Fonasa. The most definitive solution has to occur with the short law on the one hand and then the opening of the discussion of the Reform”.

The conference, which was held in the Aula Magna Fundadores of the Central University, was attended by the highest authorities of the Institution, headed by the rector, santiago gonzalez and the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr. Patrick Silvadeans of the different faculties, school and career directors both from the house of studies and from other institutions.

In addition, presidents and directors of professional associations in the health area and directors of hospitals, primary care and foundations were present, among other institutions that are clinical fields of our university.
