After two hours in the Prosecutor’s Office, the President of Peru Pedro Castillo denied, this Monday, September 5, the accusations of alleged corruption in three of the six open cases against him: Petroperú Case (influence peddling) and the removal of Mariano González of the Ministry of the Interior (alleged cover-up in the search for fugitive Juan Silva, among others).

In statements, Castillo pointed out that “we have categorically denied and rejected the accusations” and added that, once the information is collected in all the investigations, he will go “again to testify.”
Castillo went to the office of the Attorney General of the Nation (General), Patricia Benavides, to respond to the alleged crimes of personal cover-up and criminal organization, as well as the tender made by the state-owned company Petroperú for the purchase of biodiesel from the Heaven Petroleum company. and of the presumed irregularities in the norms approved in favor of the district of Anguía in the northern province of Chota, from which Castillo is a native.
The head of state added that he will continue “showing his face” and attending the prosecutor’s summons as many times as necessary. “We have not come to harm the country,” Castillo said and assured that he remains firm to lead the country’s destinies.
“You know what our business is, where we have come from,” Castillo added and assured that he will not “lower his guard” because “Peru needs its authorities to be there to respond to the great needs” of the country.
Castillo’s lawyer, Benji Espinoza, added, in statements to the press that the president has established that “he is completely innocent of all the charges that are falsely attributed to him.”
