
He President of Paraguay, Santiago Peñareaffirmed this Thursday his “commitment to democracy” after talk with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubioabout the military operation last Saturday in Caracas and three neighboring statesthat concluded with the capture of Nicolás Maduro, and his wife, Cilia Flores.
“Our commitment to democracy and the well-being of our people is firm. We reaffirm the values we share and agree on the importance of working together to promote security, stability and prosperity in the region”said Peña in a message spread in his count in X.
Earlier, the State Department reported the telephone conversation between Peña and Rubiowhich is framed in the round of contacts that he Secretary of State meets with dignitaries from allied countries.
In the telephone contact, Rubio thanked Peña “for Paraguay’s support in the fight against narcoterrorism and in strengthening security in the hemisphere”according to a statement from State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott.
