The number of political prisoners in Cuba amounts to 1,148, denounces Prisoners Defenders

Claudia Sheinbaum challenges the United States, which has put the sights on the medical brigades exported by the island’s regime.

CDMX, Mexico. – The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, confirmed that her government will maintain the agreement with Havana so that doctors of the island work in the public health system. “We have collaboration with Cuba on several issues. [Con] Cuban doctors are going to continue, it is an established agreement, it has everything in order and we will continue with that ”, He affirmed during his morning conference this Monday In National Palace.

According to the president, the hiring of foreign personnel does not displace national doctors. “No Mexican doctor is replaced, none, the problem is that Mexico stopped graduating medical specialists for too many years,” he said. He added that these professionals reinforce attention in remote communities: “They are very good doctors, who are graduated and that they are willing to come to Mexico to the most remote places. We have the obligation to serve everyone.”

In addition, Sheinbaum said that in 2026 his government will promote, together with Cuban specialists, a program to treat the diabetic foot. “In particular on this issue we will have greater collaboration with Cuba because it is the only country that this medicine has [Heberprot-P, para tratar las úlceras del pie diabético] and that has many results, ”he said.

The president also indicated that when Mexico has more specialists trained in the country, more Cubans will no longer hire.

In July 2024, the Mexican government – then headed by Andrés Manuel López Obrador – signed an agreement for which 2,700 Cuban doctors reached the national territory. Mexico has 2.4 doctors per 1,000 inhabitants, a figure higher than the Latin American average (2 per 1,000) but below the OECD average (3,5), according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) of the Aztec Nation cited by EFE.

In June of this year, It transcended that the Government of Mexico had allocated at least 2,019 million 98,000 pesos between 2022 and went from 2025 to finance the presence, transfer and maintenance of Cuban doctors in its territory. However, the Mexican Social Security Institute for Welfare (IMSS-Bienestar) had no knowledge of how much each professional received individually for their work.

This was revealed by an investigation of The Universalbased on a request for official information and public contracts available on the platform MX Purchases. According to the report, the Millionaire Sum had been channeled to both Mexican companies and the state -owned state of Cuban Medical Services SA, responsible for providing medical staff through intergovernmental agreements.

Analysts agree that the export of medical services constitutes one of Havana’s main sources of income, which has motivated repeated accusations of coercive labor practices. In addition to the regime of the island retains most of the salaries of professionals who export abroad, prevents those who leave their missions from returning to the island for eight years.
