Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she is “hoping that communication between Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente and the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, will occur today or tomorrow” to begin bilateral talks and “be able to establish all communication and respectful dialogue between our countries.”
In today’s morning conference, the president stressed that she has asked the chancellor “to always express our position on the immigration issue: that the best thing is to address the causes, invest, support people who have to emigrate out of necessity. We are going to continue insisting on that with the United States Government.”
“Always,” he said, “with respect for our sovereignty and coordination and collaboration with the United States Government on different issues in a relationship of equals.”
“We hope that with this communication taking place between today and tomorrow, it has already been confirmed that these talks will begin, which are essential for the arrival of President Trump’s new administration.”
