President of Inder highlights Cuba’s sports performance in 2021

The president of the National Sports Institute (Inder) of Cuba, Osvaldo Vento, today highlighted the great performance of the sports movement last year to place the island in 14th place at the Tokyo Olympics.

In the radio-televised space of the Round Table, the director highlighted the 15 medals won by Cuba in the Japanese event, despite not being among the developed nations of the world, and in a very complex international scenario due to the global economic crisis, the trade blockade and financial of the United States against the island and the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Vento praised the preparation of the athletes and the cohesive work with alliances between all the organizations to face this fair, the Tokyo Paralympics, the first Junior Pan American Games in Cali, as well as the World Boxing, Canoeing and Athletics Relay Championships. to give great joy to the people.

In addition, he congratulated the sports workers for their total dedication to the most difficult tasks during the worst moment of the pandemic, and reiterated the trust placed in them by the Inder management.

When evaluating the performance of 2021, Vento recognized the work in the municipal and provincial structures, and highlighted the dedication of athletes, coaches and other members of the technical groups.

In particular, he referred to the need to develop a sports system based on science, technology and innovation and the implementation of sports, physical education and recreation projects, and use of free time.

According to the head of Inder, in the largest of the Antilles there is a sports reserve that could be expanded, and insisted on the importance of working in the communities, not only for the search for future champions, but also for the benefit of physical and mental health. of the population.

Vento insisted on the need for permanent attention to sports facilities and the development of initiatives to achieve the strategic purposes set for the future of the sector.

He insisted on the need to reinforce political-ideological work in schools from an early age, so that children and young people identify with the achievements of the Cuban Revolution.

He also referred to the urgency of rescuing the competitive system from the base and at the school level, from mass sport in its entirety, the need to improve the preparation of physical education teachers and coaches, and the revitalization of sports schools.

nAccording to the director, Inder must strengthen its work system and strengthen relations with the ministries of education and higher education, among others, and with political and mass organizations.
