The President of Guinea-Bisseau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, arrived in Venezuela on Sunday, May 7, almost six months after a previous visit to the country. The reason for his visit lies in being able to develop a work agenda that allows the strengthening of strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Yván Gil, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received the president of the African nation at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía; although no further details were known about the arrival of Sissoco Embaló or the agenda that he will hold on Venezuelan soil. However, it is estimated that he will be received by his counterpart, Nicolás Maduro.

Maduro and the president of Guinea-Bissau, signed the past November 1, 2022 cooperation agreements to increase trade and boost the economic growth of both nations, this being the first working meeting between the leaders.

In April 2023, Venezuela and Guinea Bisseau signed 15 agreements in various areas during the first mixed commission between the two countries on agriculture, public works, the judicial sector, mining, air and maritime transport.

So far, both nations have signed 22 agreements. In 2009 they signed seven cooperation agreements in the areas of health, education, energy, mining and defense.

Bilateral relations between the two countries date back to April 6, 2006. In 2008, Venezuela and Guinea Bissau established a Cooperation Framework Agreement and a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of a Consultation Mechanism.
