the president of EcuadorGuillermo Lasso, tested positive for COVID-19 this Wednesday, a day after the country exceeded 900,000 confirmed cases of the disease, according to the Presence Communication Secretariat in a statement.
Lasso, 66, has no symptoms and is dispatching from the Carondelet Palace, the seat of the Government of Ecuador, which also houses the president’s residence where he will comply with the corresponding medical protocols.

The positive of the Ecuadorian ruler is known, the agency points out Ephin the midst of protests against the economic management of its Executive, convened mainly by the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie), with a balance of two dead protesters and no less than a hundred injured.

These protests come after the first year of Lasso’s presidential term, which focused mainly on vaccination and economic recovery.
Thanks to vaccination, which registers 83% of those over three years old with two doses, 38% with three and about 4% with four injections, the levels of infections did not rebound after it was eliminated at the end of April at the national obligation to wear a mask both in public and closed spaces.
