Quito, Jan 31 (Prensa Latina) The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, will develop a broad agenda in China, a country where he traveled today on an official visit that will last until February 6.
Prior to leaving from the Mariscal Sucre international airport, the president assured: “During this visit we will deal with issues such as the mutual interest in initiating negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement between both nations and, at the same time, raising the interest in renegotiating the terms of the debt that Ecuador has with Chinese banks.
The head of state added that he hopes to achieve positive results for the development of Ecuador.
Lasso recalled that on August 29, in a telephone conversation with his counterpart from the Asian country, Xi Jinping, he received an invitation to establish an official bilateral meeting that would bring the two peoples closer together and deepen their diplomatic and commercial relations.
As he advanced, one of the main activities that will mark his agenda and that of his entourage in China will be the presidential dialogue, as well as a meeting with Prime Minister Li Keqiang.
Likewise, it will participate in the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, in which Ecuador will be represented by skier Sarah Escobar, the first woman from this Andean territory to participate in the sports event.
“My presence at the opening ceremony means an endorsement of Sarah, to whom I send greetings with best wishes for success in her participation in these games,” he said in this regard.
Another issue that the national delegation will address in the so-called Asian Giant will be cooperation regarding immunization and management of the Covid-19 pandemic, taking into account that China has provided 52 percent of the vaccine doses received by Ecuador for treat the disease.
The People’s Republic of China is the second most important trading partner of this South American nation and one of the most important sources of foreign direct investment, for which the president will hold a meeting with businessmen, in order to promote Ecuadorian export products and publicize investment opportunities.
