The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, wished Argentina success today in the presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) and highlighted Mexico’s work in that position.
Through his Twitter account, the president assured that the island will continue to bet on unity within the Latin American and Caribbean diversity.
“We wish Argentina success in the Presidency of Celac and we recognize the commendable work carried out by Mexico during this difficult period, at the head of the integration mechanism,” he added.
Argentina will lead the Celac for the first time since the founding of that entity, with the challenge of strengthening the integration of the Great Homeland.
When certain sectors dismissed this regional forum, which brings together 33 countries without the participation of the United States, Canada and Brazil – the latter decided to exclude itself – the recent summit of foreign ministers demonstrated the strength of the bloc.
For the first time, Buenos Aires was also the venue for this event, which became a moment of support for the host country, which was unanimously elected and assumed the challenge of the pro tempore presidency with 15 specific projection axes in search of consolidating integration in the diversity.
We will carry out this task “with the conviction of those who believe that we are all part of a Great Homeland, although many do the impossible to divide and submit us easily,” President Alberto Fernández said during his speech.
At the meeting, the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, ratified the firm will to preserve Celac as a mechanism for genuinely Latin American and Caribbean political agreement and the unwavering commitment to regional integration and full validity of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.
