The task force, explained from the lake, will work along the lines in the Brazilian presidency in the G20 (group of the 19 largest economies on the planet, the plus European Union and African Union). Over the past year, when Brazil led the group, the G20-themed areas had their task forces involving several related ministries. According to the diplomat, the joint work of various ministries is essential to address climate change and bring the climate to the center of economic and social development.

“We realized how much the most pessimistic predictions regarding the arrival of the impacts of climate change were confirmed. I think that, with this sense of urgency and above all with this sense of opportunity, I would make a major change in the world economy with current technologies and current instruments, ”said do Lago.

Financing

Regarding financing for climate actions, the president of COP30 stated that the focus is not on the creation of funds, but in the strengthening of existing resources and the bureaucracy of the system, to accelerate the release of resources. He criticized the delay in project analysis and approval and defended the proactivity and innovation of these funds.

“We need to strengthen what exists, but also to think, considering that everything is happening long before what we predicted, that we have to accelerate. For example, you have a project in one of these funds [para o] Climate that takes a long time to approve and developed, so we have to make the system work more in favor of urgency, ”he said.
