President of Congress considers "lack of respect" and "irresponsibility" criticism of Mirtha Vásquez

The president of , (Popular Action), considered a “lack of respect” and “irresponsibility” the criticism of the head of the , , to that state power.

“We are not going to allow Congress to be attacked to discredit it”, affirmed the head of Parliament, in response to criticism from representatives of the Executive Branch that unconstitutional and anti-democratic laws were being approved.

“I reject those words, it seems to me disrespectful, irresponsible that a former president of Congress does not respect the jurisdiction of Parliament and does not behave like a former president of Congress”, he indicated.

He then said that Mirtha Vasquez should be concerned that his ministers “Do not do unconstitutional things and appoint officials with suitable profiles in the Executive Power, and not like Mr. (Daniel) Salaverry”.

At another time, the president of Congress regretted that the Executive Branch had waited until the last day to observe the signing of the law that strengthens the process of approving constitutional reform laws, referring to the rights of citizen participation and control (referendum).

He specified that what was approved by Parliament is “simply interpret the article of the Constitution” and it is not a constitutional change or “we are inventing gunpowder”.

“No Constituent Assembly can be held in the street as some congressmen do who are asking for signatures, and that does not go through Congress (…) If someone tries to do that, it is a coup d’état”, I note.

Alva Prieto also questioned that since the beginning of this parliamentary period there has been an attempt to minimize the legislative work with the issue of the Constituent Assembly.

“We are going to defend the institutionality of Congress and parliamentary jurisdiction (…) For there to be democracy, there must be Congress, and there must be a balance of powers”, he remarked.
