The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, offered the city of Cartagena as the venue for an eventual dialogue that would lead to the search for a solution to the political crisis that Venezuela is going through.

The president of the United States confirmed this Sunday, November 30, that he recently spoke by phone with Nicolás Maduro, who denounces the preparation of an “aggression” by Donald Trump’s administration to promote a “regime change” in Venezuela.

«I wouldn’t say it went well or badly. “It was a phone call,” Trump said in remarks aboard Air Force One.

Washington claims that Maduro heads an alleged drug cartel and has been carrying out an anti-drug operation in the Caribbean since August in which he has destroyed around 20 vessels and more than 70 people have died, according to official statements.

The political crisis in Venezuela worsened after the presidential elections of July 28, 2024, whose results were denounced as fraudulent by the opposition that declared Edmundo González Urrutia the winner, with more than seven million votes. Both the opposition and the international community have demanded that the National Electoral Council present the electoral records that certify the victory of Nicolás Maduro.
