On Monday night, Ovidio Díaz was sworn in as the new president of the National Chamber of Tourism (Camtur).
The president-elect confessed this Tuesday on Radio Panama that the issue of hotels in Panama City and the flow of tourists to the country is not a problem that is born with the pandemic, “it is a problem that comes from behind.”
He expressed that the main challenge is the unity of the union, for which he proposed the elaboration of a plan, and once defined, push towards that line. “Leave with a two-year plan with the other structures that watch over tourism,” he said.
He affirmed that we have a country full of natural and cultural products that we can turn into a tourism producer, but we have to work on it.
“We need a greater offer in air connectivity, that is important; we need to understand very well what is the product that we have to sell and to what market to sell it. Much more tourists are missing and that is what we have to work on,” he said.
Díaz indicated that the North American and European vacation markets prefer the sun and beach segment. “What is our problem? We have no product. What we lack, and in this case would be rooms”, he highlighted.
Ovidio Díaz took office and swore in all the members of his board of directors for the period 2022-2024, in a ceremony that took place at the headquarters of the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino).
The fundamental objective of Camtur is to promote the promotion and development of tourism in Panama, for which it brings together the different sectors or guilds of tourism activity, promoting the country abroad and promoting the development of infrastructure and tourist facilities.
In addition, it promotes the approval of laws for the benefit of the tourism industry and carries out joint actions with public and private entities both in Panama and abroad.
