President Luis Lacalle Pou, Vice President Beatriz Argimón and other government authorities participated in the closing of the 117th edition of the International Livestock Exhibition, Agroindustrial and Commercial Exhibition, better known as Expo Prado 2022, where the president of the Association of Uruguay ( ARU), Gonzalo Valdés, gave the closing speech this afternoon.
Valdés referred to several issues, including the agricultural sector, which he described as “the engine of the country” and highlighted that it represents 80% of exports of goods and generates 270,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs, mainly in the interior of the country. .
For Valdés, the Rural Association of Uruguay pursues the development of agricultural interests and watches over the interests of producers and workers in rural areas. He said that he does not “present complaints” but rather contributions that are aimed at the well-being of Uruguayans and seek an improvement in state resources. Regarding the reality of the producers and the claims of the unions, he indicated that “those who point to us as permanent critics do not understand or do not want to understand what is the spirit that motivates our actions.”
Regarding salaries, he stated that they promoted an adjustment of the same due to the advance of the corrective measures planned for the year 2023. In addition, from ARU they suggested an advance of the salary increases planned by the Salary Council of 2021, «thus earning three months in advance.
