President of Ancap: "The friction with the union has to do with its vocation for co-management"

During a presentation made at the Spanish Chamber of Commerce of Uruguay, the president of Ancap, Alejandro Stipanicic, was consulted about the conflictive relationship and the “permanent friction” between the company and the Fancap union.

The head of Ancap assured that in the Fancap union what happens is that “there is a vocation for co-management”.

By way of example, he mentioned the decision of the Board of Directors to lease the aerofuel plants at the Laguna del Sauce and Carrasco airports to reduce million-dollar losses, and maintaining the jobs involved.

This is a point of contention with the union that rejects the decision and that weeks ago led to a cut off of fuel supplies to the airports as a protest measure.

“At a meeting at Dinatra I told the union: ‘You realize that you are co-managing.’ They say no, but if the company makes a decision and there is resistance that prevents that decision from being carried out, there is someone else who makes the decision. That is what is happening with the Ancap union,” he said.

“It happens with Portland cement, it happens with aerofuels and it has happened in other instances,” he added. Stipanicic recalled that Fancap also “refused” to return a ship (Malva H ship) that cost US$ 1 million per year to the entity.

“They refused to return a ship that had been contracted to operate in the port of Juan Lacaze and in the port of Paysandú. Guess which two ports that ship couldn’t enter?” she said.

“The 20 crew members are happy working in another Ancap facility and Ancap saves US$1 million per year. Why are we going to lose US$700,000 in Laguna del Sauce? Why are we going to continue losing money if our business is another? The friction with the unions has a lot to do with the position it adopts in this desire for veto power over decisions. That is co-management, ”he stressed.

“Co-management or management without responsibility does not work. The Ancap Board of Directors and the government are responsible for the decisions we make. Let’s leave the decisions to the legitimate authorities.” ended.
