On the 17th anniversary of the creation of PetroCaribe, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, bets that this integrationist instrument “very soon” will be strengthened in favor of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples.
Through his account on the social network Twitter, the Head of State specified that PetroCaribe “is a mechanism for the energy security of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples. I am sure that very soon, we will recover the capacity of this instrument. It is the way!”.
The President highlighted that PetroCaribe is a mechanism created under the integrationist vision of Hugo Chávez and Fidel Castro.
In the message published by the Head of State, a video is released in which, in the voice of then President Hugo Chávez, it is explained that PetroCaribe “was born as an enabling body for energy policies and plans that articulates the region’s energy policies, including everything that has to do with oil and its derivatives, gas, electricity, technological cooperation, the energy structure, transcends a simple mechanism. It is an integrating, liberating and unifying mechanism, which seeks to resolve symmetries in access to energy resources, through favorable and fair exchange between countries.
For his part, President Maduro expressed, in the same video, that PetroCaribe “has proven to be a project for the protection of our peoples, for liberation, union, for the construction of equality between our countries, it has become a miracle and has brought energy, economic, social and political stability to the Caribbean. From Petrocaribe we say yes another world can be built, to joint work, to love, another great opportunity to think about development and well-being.
PetroCaribe: reduction of asymmetries
It should be remembered that PetroCaribe was created on June 29, 2005 by then-president Hugo Chávez, with the aim of coordinating energy policies that would reduce existing asymmetries in the region, diversify the energy matrix, eliminate the intermediation of transnationals and minimize costs. operating costs.
With this organization, the transformation of Latin American and Caribbean societies is sought, making them fairer, cultured, participatory and supportive.
PetroCaribe constitutes a multilateral organization capable of ensuring the coordination and articulation of energy policies. It not only includes oil, but also gas, electricity, technological cooperation, training and the development of energy infrastructure; in addition to the use of alternative sources, such as wind, solar and other energy.
Petrocaribe is then an initiative of which 18 nations are part, which promote fair and equitable access to hydrocarbon resources, based on the principles of solidarity, complementarity, respect and self-determination of peoples.
