The President of the Republic Luis Lacalle Pou spoke at the working lunch organized by the Association of Marketing Managers (ADM) at the Radisson Hotel in Montevideo.
The president assured that the State is present, is careful with public money, attends to the most vulnerable population and is committed to private investment.
He also affirmed that the social security reform and the educational transformation will continue, while highlighting the economic growth and the drop in unemployment and informality.
He was accompanied at the central table by the vice president, Beatriz Argimón; the Ministers of Industry, Omar Paganini; of Labor, Pablo Mieres; Livestock, Fernando Mattos; of Economy, Azucena Arbeleche; of Housing, Irene Moreira; and the president of ADM, Jorge Abuchalja.
The Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, and members of the Ministerial Cabinet, legislators, diplomats, directors of autonomous entities and decentralized services, and executives of the participating companies also participated.

“There are Uruguayans who need the stirrup,” said Lacalle Pou, who detailed two “revealing” numbers. In the first place, he explained that 130,000 citizens pay half the price to recharge bottles and that 140,000 pay 20% of the value of electrical energy.
He also recalled the implementation of the Access program and that there is currently a record of ex-inmates with work thanks to plans implemented by the National Directorate of Support for the Released (Dinali).
He stressed that for the next Accountability, special emphasis will be placed on mental health and addiction problems. “It is the great challenge that we have ahead of us,” he said, adding that “no Uruguayan will be given up for lost” and that social policies make autonomy possible.
Record public works in 2023
“The Government takes care of public money, pays attention to the most vulnerable, and money is returned in necessary works,” he said.
In this sense, he stressed the strong support for the private sector, which, he pointed out, is demonstrated by the values of projects of the Commission for the Application of the Investment Law (Comap), with 2,585 million dollars; promoted housing, with 600 million, and large projects, with 500 million dollars. He pointed out that it is “genuine work” and added that it is the impulse of the private sector with confidence, certainty and hope.
Lacalle Pou valued that in the last hours in Parliament the tax reduction in the country was voted unanimously, “which benefits employees.”
Projects that will continue
He stated that social security reform was an urgent need. He said that the entire spectrum was consulted before presenting the project in the Legislative Branch and that the Government is convinced to vote on it to ensure retirement within 20 or 30 years.
“We are going to go ahead with the project and get it out before March 1, 2025,” he said.
Regarding educational transformation, he said that it is a tool for change and improvement because the world has changed. He affirmed that we must accompany the modern world, move forward. “You cannot amputate the possibility of a first level education to those who need it most so that there is no more social gap”, she valued. In this direction, he emphasized that innovations will continue.

Lacalle Pou expressed that Uruguay is in a special moment because the country grew by 5% while the world did by 2.6%.
He made reference to the national historical tradition of caring for democracy and the Republic, with unrestricted respect for the separation of powers that represents a hallmark of the country before the world.
He stressed the importance of caring for the nation by successive governments because, he stated, it is a collective construction that must be respected and valued.
