Within the framework of Expo Prado 2022, President Lacalle Pou, accompanied by government authorities, met this Wednesday 14 with the board of directors of the Rural Association of Uruguay (ARU). At the meeting, the concept of rurality, the current economic situation and that of the agricultural sector were addressed. Later, he toured the fair facilities and visited stands of participating enterprises and institutions.
Lacalle Pou arrived at the exhibition site around 10:00 am and was received by the Minister of Transportation, José Luis Falero.
Later, he participated in a meeting with the ARU, accompanied by the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado; the Minister of Economy, Azucena Arbeleche; his peers from Livestock, Fernando Mattos; Work, Pablo Mieres; Interior, Luis Alberto Heber; Industry, Omar Paganini, and Foreign Affairs, Francisco Bustillo; the Undersecretary of Livestock, Juan Ignacio Buffa, and the Labor Undersecretary, Mario Aritzi; the general director of the Ministry of Livestock, Fernanda Maldonado, and the head of the National Meat Institute, Conrado Ferber. On behalf of the ARU, the president of the organization, Gonzalo Valdés, and members of the board of directors attended.
After the meeting, Minister Mattos said that it was part of the president’s traditional visit to Expo Prado and noted that it included conversations on the progress of the economy and the sector in general.
In addition, he maintained that the president listened to the proposals of the ARU, focused on the general structure of production, competitiveness and issues related to the sector that are part of the Rendering of Accounts.
According to the minister, Lacalle Pou explained the different positions of the Government regarding the functioning of the economy, support for the agricultural sector, international insertion, efforts from the fiscal point of view and the more than 200 million dollars of expansion of spending contained in said document.
Then, the president toured the facilities of the fair and visited stands linked to the national industry, as well as public and private entities that present their lines of action there.
In the afternoon, he will participate in the award for national livestock production.
