President José Jerí announced that this week his government will present to Congress a request for legislative powers focused on strengthening citizen security and reactivating the economy. The president announced that the regulatory package will seek “more concrete and sustainable results,” with a different approach than previous administrations.
During a meeting with representatives of the main business associations, Jerí maintained that the Executive will collect proposals from the private sector before defining the final content of the request to Parliament. His objective, he said, is to build a legal framework that stimulates investment and eliminates bureaucratic obstacles, but without losing sight of the fight against crime.
“The State must facilitate and not hinder. We want to accelerate processes, promote responsible investment and, at the same time, guarantee that Peruvians feel safe,” said the head of state, who assured that the ongoing interventions already show encouraging signs.
The president also announced that the new states of emergency will be applied under a “different” format, aimed at responding more effectively to the wave of violence in several regions. He asked the population for patience and reaffirmed that his administration has “the conviction and dedication necessary to restore tranquility” to the country.
Jerí insisted that his government’s objective is not only to confront crime, but also to lay solid foundations for the future. “We have to leave the field in order for the next government,” he said.
As reported, the technical teams of the business associations will work together with the ministries to refine the final document of the request for powers. The goal, he stressed, is for the proposal to reach Congress with broad technical and political support, the result of consensus between the public sector, the private sector and parliamentary forces.
