President José Jerí, spoke after the opening of a process against him by the Special Electoral Jury (JEE), pointing out that his statement was an “informed and documented discharge” and part of the first legal instance.

“Somos Perú was my ‘only political love’ for which I have ‘a feeling of belonging and representativeness'” and “Somos Perú historically in all the years that it has had to be on the national scene, it has always supported the governability of the country,” were the phrases pronounced by the president.
Although José Jerí will not run in the 2026 elections, the JEE considered that, in his capacity as President of the Republic, his words violate the duty of neutrality that governs senior State officials during an electoral process.
JERÍ RESPONDS
In this regard, President Jerí assured that his statement was a “response to a question they asked me” in an interview context, and not a “separate statement.”
“I will continue to do my part, it was in the context of an interview, it was not a party statement,” said the president, adding that he believes that “I have not violated excesses that may have occurred in the first instance.”
The head of state affirmed that he will continue his work and that the response to the JEE is part of the ongoing legal process.
