President Jerí on meeting with Chinese businessman: "I’ll reflect on it"

The president Jose JerHe held an unofficial meeting with the Chinese businessman Zhihua Yang on the night of December 26, 2025 in an establishment San Borjawithout this meeting appearing on the public agenda of the head of state, as revealed by the Sunday Punto Final.

In the published report, images were shown in which the president arrives at 10:18 pm aboard the so-called presidential “chest”, an official vehicle with the EGK-267 license plate used by previous heads of state.

It is also seen that he arrives with his face covered by a hood and dressed informally, accompanied by his security personnel.

The meeting took place at a location on the 19th block of San Luis Avenue, where several companies linked to Yang also operate, such as Hidroeléctrica América SAC, Construcciones Capón SAC and América Capón SAC.

Another firm domiciled in the same building, Tengda Cerámica SAC, would have hired services from former President Dina Boluarte’s brother, Nicanor Boluarte, on two occasions.

From the Presidential Office they confirmed the existence of the meeting to the program, but assured that the central topic was the upcoming celebration of the Peru-China Friendship Day and that Jerí and Yang have known each other since the time when the former was a congressman.

What did President José Jerí say?

So far, the Chinese businessman has not spoken, but the Peruvian president has.

In response to the journalistic revelation, José Jerí released a diplomatic note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (dated January 3, 2026) with which he sought to contextualize the meeting held with the Chinese businessman Zhihua Yang. In addition, he told the press and assured that he was going to “reflect” on the fact.

“In addition to the fact that I am going to eat in that restaurant, they are interested in having an exhibition and that on February 1st all the details will be seen. They also worked at the chancery level, that is procedurally processed, but they have every intention of their event being in the Government Palace. I say it again, there is nothing to relate to the past, the practices of the past are the practices of the past and today I am fully concentrated and I rule out any type of irregularity regarding the situation that occurred yesterday. has been shown,” the president mentioned.

He indicated that he has no connection with Dina Boluarte’s brother, Nicanor Boluarte and that the meeting was not an official activity. “Yes, they are planning to do an official activity in the Government Palace, (the meeting was not recorded) because it was the 26th, mainly I went to dinner and third, that is a series of activities that will be reflected in the Peruvian Friendship Day. So, there is nothing irregular, there is nothing improper, but I am going to reflect on it,” stated José Jerí.

Through social networks, he showed an official document reaffirming what he said in person to the press: The Peruvian Government has been coordinating activities within the framework of the Peru-China Friendship Day, an anniversary created by law in 2024 and celebrated for the first time this year, to which the president has given special relevance.

In the communication, the Foreign Ministry reported that it has been decided to organize a commemorative event in the Government Palace and in the Plaza de Armas of Lima, in addition to issuing a formal invitation to the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, or a representative he designates, to participate in both the ceremony and in bilateral dialogue and cooperation meetings.

The head of state maintained that the contacts linked to Chinese citizens and businessmen are part of a previously established diplomatic agenda, although questions persist due to the lack of official record of the revealed meeting and the use of the presidential “chest” outside the public agenda.
