President Jair Bolsonaro participated today (11) in the opening ceremony of the Vice Consulate of Brazil in Orlando, Florida, United States. The consular representation will assist Brazilians living in the region and tourists, with services such as granting passports, civil registration and assistance in cases of emergencies.
“This piece of Brazil of ours does a huge amount of good for our brothers who are here, because they look for the most diverse services and sometimes have to travel tens, sometimes hundreds of kilometers to have their problems solved,” Bolsonaro said during the inauguration.
The president traveled on Thursday (9) to the United States, where he participated in the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles. At the time, he met with US President Joe Biden. this was the first bilateral meeting since Biden came to power in January 2021.
“I confessed to Jon Biden that, since I was a child, I have always admired the American people. We have a lot of identity, especially in terms of values, in terms of freedom”, he said. He cited freedom of religion and expression, “the greatest good that a people can have”. “Freedom in its widest possible form”, added.
During the ceremony, Bolsonaro was accompanied by the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Carlos França and of Justice and Public Security, Anderson Torres and the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL).
Consulate
According to Itamaraty, the Vice-Consulate will be subordinate to the Consulate General in Miami and should serve the approximately 180,000 Brazilians who live in the region.
Bolsonaro carried out the first delivery of documentation, a passport for a seven-year-old Brazilian child, who was born in Orlando.
According to the chancellor, in addition to the vice consulate in Orlando, Itamaraty will open four other offices. These are the Consulates General of Brazil in Chengdu (People’s Republic of China), Edinburgh (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) and Marseille (French Republic) and a vice consulate in Cusco (Peru).
“This means more attention to the Brazilian community abroad, to Brazilian tourists when they visit other countries. Here he has a point of support, he is a piece of Brazil abroad”, said França. “I hope that this act can be repeated in the coming years, there is a growing Brazilian community abroad”, said the chancellor.
