Given this, the President responded that “the problem is that there are some sectors of the left with a double standard in terms of human rights, so do sectors of the right when they speak only of the triad Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua and journalism permanently reproduces.
“Why do the media always ask me about Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua, and they don’t ask me about human rights violations, for example, in our country (Chile) or the murders of social leaders in Colombia?” the president replied. .
He also added that “human rights must be fully respected and our State must promote them fully in all parts of the world, regardless of the government that violates them.”
“As President of Chile I am not going to make a distinction and we are going to promote, together with our Foreign Minister who was president of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, a single line, and let us not use the suffering of peoples, whether in Ukraine, Yemen, in Palestine, Chile, Venezuela, in Nicaragua; wherever it is to try to take advantage of internal policies, because that happens constantly and those who end up harmed the most are the peoples who suffer,” he concluded.
