President Gabriel Boric participates in the Ecumenical Te Deum: “In order to build a country and rediscover ourselves as a society, we need to listen to each other”

The President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, left La Moneda greeting his adherents, during the 212th anniversary of the National Government Board, to then travel in the traditional Ford Galaxie car to the Cathedral of Santiago, where, together with the First Lady Irina Karamanos and all her ministers participated in her first Ecumenical Te Deum of National Holidays.

In addition to the cabinet headed by Interior Minister Carolina Tohá, the presidents of the Lower House, Raúl Soto, and of the Senate, Álvaro Elizalde, the helmsman of the Socialist Party Paulina Vodanovic and the mayor of Santiago Irací Hassler attended the religious event.

Prior to his admission, the President, who yesterday participated in the Evangelical Te Deum at the Evangelical Cathedral of Puente Alto, sent a message to Chileans abroad as part of the celebration of National Holidays: “Thank you very much for being where they are and continuing to carry our flag, our colors and our identity high,” he said.

Meanwhile, the head of the Chamber of Deputies, Raúl Soto, at his entrance to the Ecumenical Te Deum, stated: “It is time to put aside differences and think about the best interests of the country, and I call everyone politician to humility”.

During the ceremony, the Archbishop of Santiago, Cardinal Celestino Aós, commented: “These festivities commit us to increasing freedom, because today we are tempted by ideological and social slavery; evil always enslaves and has many forms.” And he added: “Today we give thanks for good politicians and we pray that all Christians are convinced that they have the duty and the right to be interested in politics. The problem of some today is the problem of everything.”

“Citizens do not leave what we have to do in the hands of the Government, of the institutions; the institutions of the State and the Church must take care of the most impoverished, migrants and favor information, so that each one of us sees his part and contributions that must be delivered,” said Aos.

The cardinal declared: “Violence does not build, the violent do not create a present or future for Chile, the corrupt do not build.”

It is worth mentioning that, from the Government, they reported that there will be no official photo, but the cueca slip will take place at the Palacio de La Moneda.

President’s messages

President Gabriel Boric returned to La Moneda from the Cathedral together with Carolina Tohá, Minister of the Interior. Entering the Palace, he assured that there is an idea that was left “turning around”. “In order to build a country, and to be able to rediscover ourselves as a society, we need to be able to listen to each other. And that is something that I rescue both from the words yesterday in Puente Alto, and today in the Cathedral”, he assured.

“We bear fruit only when we are united with Chile. And to be united with Chile (…), the first thing we have to do is respect the opinion of those who think differently. I think that is something that in recent times in our country it has been weakened, and it is something that we have to recover,” he said.

The President added that those who have different opinions must be respected and spaces must be found to advance differences. “Not to be fanatically clinging to your own ideas. But to listen to what is good in someone who has another point of view”.
