The president of the Republic, Gabriel Boricin the company of the mayor of Rapa Nui, Pedro Emunds Paoa, held a ceremony to commemorate the International Tourism Day, to start the tourism week in our country, which will feature various activities around Chile; and the reopening of the island for visitors.
The head of state highlighted the fact that the Covid-19 pandemic has altered tourism and that its reactivation is important for Chile’s economic recovery. In this line, he specified that this industry corresponds to 6.5% of jobs at the country level, which would be approximately 570 thousand.

Likewise, the President deepened that “we have been improving little by little. I do not want to pretend that this is a virtue or grace mainly of our Government. It requires a very cohesive work with the mayors and regional governments. Although the numbers go up in When it comes to tourism, we still haven’t reached the place we were before the pandemic. Our goal has to go much further.”
In this context, Boric clarified that the Chile Supports Plan helps more than 160,000 micro, small and medium-sized companies, some of which correspond to tourism, and that they will be eligible for subsidies of $4 million to reactivate activities.
“We are working hard to improve Chile’s economic growth and, above all, to give certainty to the inhabitants of our country,” he added.
Upon closing, Boric sent a message to tourism workers, indicating that they will not be left alone in this scenario, since as a government they believe that if tourism grows, the country grows.
