“It is that the Constitution of 1980 is the Constitution of the four generals. That it had many modifications, by the way, and that in 2005 the signature was changed. But the process of origin of the Constitution that currently governs us today, is a fraudulent plebiscite”. With this reflection, President Gabriel Boric assured that he is going to play it because the day of the exit plebiscite is “the moment to meet and overcome the Constitution of 1980, respecting the alternatives that exist.”
In interview with Third, the President stated that the constitutional process is valuable for Chile. In that sense, he maintained that when one sees what has been approved of the text, what is in the draft, “my perspective at least is that it is something completely reasonable.”
“One has to be more balanced. I want to wait for the final text to be able to make a complete evaluation. But of course I continue to be in favor of a new Constitution,” said President Gabriel Boric.
Asked about the idea of advancing towards a “third way”, beyond Approval or Rejection, the Head of State indicated that they will seek to ensure that the exit plebiscite has all the debate that is necessary, but hopefully “it will be a meeting place and that the result that comes out of it is not something that can be ignored”. “What’s the mechanism?” he questioned. “I hope it will be the plebiscite on September 4,” he replied.
Along these lines, President Gabriel Boric affirmed that “I am going to risk it because on September 4, I insist, it will be the time to meet and overcome the Constitution of 1980, respecting the alternatives that exist.”
In any case, President Boric’s conclusion is that “any result is more legitimate than a Constitution written by four generals.”
“On September 5 we are going to continue governing whatever happens. We have that duty. Whatever the scenario, we have to continue governing and continue trying to carry out this government program,” he concluded.
