“We were criticized a lot at some point for that, because from our government we said ‘we want to review certain parts, we are interested in defending specific aspects regarding our development model,'” the head of state added.
For her part, Foreign Minister Urrejola reported that “on Friday what we are going to do is a declaration that considers the Modernization Agreement with the European Union to be politically closed, after which all the legal issues of document translation will come.”
“I think that what must be highlighted here is that we have reached an agreement whose objective was to defend the interests of Chile and sovereignty over its natural resources, that this was the fundamental objective and we are very happy that we have reached that agreement,” added.
It should be remembered that the European Union is the leading foreign investor in Chile and its third trading partner. In 2020, trade between the two countries reached a value of €13.4 billion.
