The President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, arrived in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, for his first participation in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, whose summit will take place between Friday, November 18 and Saturday, November 19.
Upon his arrival, the President stated that “after a long 25-hour trip, we have landed here in Thailand to be able to carry out this integration process of our country, which I am proud to represent, with the countries of Asia Pacific and with the that are part of APEC.
“We are going to have important bilateral meetings with world leaders and we are going to deepen commercial integration, but also our cultural integration in a world that is changing very rapidly and, therefore, these efforts are very important,” he added.
This Friday, one of the bilateral meetings that the head of state will hold will be with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping. According to Thirdsources from the Chilean delegation hope that a visit to the Asian giant will be scheduled at the meeting for 2023.
Another relevant meeting will be this Thursday between the President and the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Khisida. On that day, Boric will meet Justin Trudeau. According to comments, one of the issues that will be addressed will be the TPP11, which has already been approved by Congress and which the Government promised to process before the end of the year.
In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonia Urrejola, said that “work continues on this issue, which is why the conversations that are held these days are going to be important to see how much space we have.”
“But I want to insist that, since the side letters are very important for the Government, behind the side letters what there is is the need to open the debate in the CTPP11 but also with other Asian countries, in general, on the solution mechanism of controversies, which is what we want to install and be active”, concluded Urrejola.
