The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, today delivered the flag of the Dominican Republic to the team of the Tigers of the Liceywho will represent the country in the Caribbean Series, to begin on Thursday, February 2, in Venezuela.
The president made the delivery during an act held at the National Palace, where the set was received champion of the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic (LIDOM) in the 2022-2023 season.
“We are going to come with the victory, we are going to receive them here and the Licey, which is the national champion, will also be champion of the Caribbean Series, representing the Dominican Republic,” Abinader said while predicting success for the team.
The Tigres del Licey will have their first game of the tournament on Thursday against Mexico.
Similarly, the president received the shirt that the Dominican team will wear in the tournament, with the #1 and surname Abinader.
The Minister of Sports, Francisco Camacho, highlighted that the management led by President Abinader in sports matters, after receiving different delegations from various disciplines at the National Palace.
“Our president is a president of the sport,” said Camacho, while wishing luck to the Tigres del Licey representing the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Series.
Meanwhile, the president of the LIDOM, Vitelio Mejía, thanked President Abinader for the support he has given to this sporting discipline and recalled that when they visited him in his offices in the midst of the pandemic without having been sworn in, he assured them that in his term professional baseball would not perish.
He also reported that in order to set up the Caribbean Series they received the expected support from the Head of State and that after having failed in 2012 and 2016, so far in recent years the best series that has been held in the Dominican Republic is the Series of the Caribbean in the year 2022.
The Caribbean party will take place from February 2 to February 10 at the Isaías “Látigo” Chávez de La Rinconada Stadium in Caracas and Jorge Luis García Carneiro de La Guaira, where in addition to the Dominican team, the champions from Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Cuba and Curacao.
Upon receiving the Tigres del Licey team, the president was accompanied by the ministers, from the Presidency, Joel Santos; Administrative of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza and the baseball commissioner, Junior Noboa.
In the same way the general manager of the Bengalese, Audo Vicente and part of his operations team such as Fernando Ravelo and Fabio Herrera. Also, the vice president of LIDOM, Winston Llenas. Among the blue directors, Ricardo Ravelo, Fernando Ravelo, Tancredo Aybar, Miguel Guerra, José Miguel Fernández and from the transmission chain, Ildefonso Ureña and Alex Luna attended.
Among the players present from the blue team, Michael De León, César Valdez, Esmil Rogers, Sergio Alcántara, Emilio Bonifacio, Jorge Bonifacio, Mel Rojas Jr, and its leader, José Offerman and the coaches Anderson Hernández, Gilbert Gómez and Raywilly Gómez.
