In the video, the president in charge defined her father as a man who dedicated his existence to the defense of equality and social justice, highlighting the political commitment of Jorge Antonio Rodríguez, which was based on the search for profound social transformations.
84 years ago, in 1942, the socialist leader Jorge Rodríguez Sr. was born in Carora, Lara state, who is remembered for his struggle and passion for life, but above all for revolutionary transformation.
Rodríguez trained as a teacher and later entered the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), specifically the Faculty of Humanities, where he had student leadership responsibilities, one of them as a delegate of the University Council in 1966.
On November 19, 1973, he called for the creation of the Socialist League. This revolutionary leader fought during his short life against the criminal acts of which he finally turned out to be a victim: The persecutions, disappearances and political assassinations by the governments of the Fourth Republic.
This struggle led to him being arrested on July 25, 1976 by agents of the DISIP (General Sectoral Directorate of Intelligence and Prevention Services), who took him to a lonely place on the Pan-American Highway, where he was tortured. After being taken to a cell, he died from internal spills, dislodged organs and numerous fractures, the result of severe beatings.
