During a peaceful meeting between representatives of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank together with the President of the Republic Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, the Panamanian president explained the expectations and projections of the economy and the private sector in Panama, with the purpose of establishing future agreements of mutual interest.
Cortizo Cohen received at the Presidential Palace Martin Spicer, who was recently appointed IFC’s new Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Mrs. Sanaa Abouzaid, IFC’s Regional Manager for Central America.
In this meeting, the president thanked the IFC for the support given to Panama and in turn informed them that it has implemented an open-door policy with organized workers and private company unions, in order to achieve economic reactivation. in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Economic growth is very important and goes hand in hand with social development that is linked to opportunities for those most in need,” said Cortizo Cohen.
Spicer said he was happy with the reception on his first visit to Panama and at the same time congratulated President Cortizo Cohen and his team for managing the economy.
“I am informed of the growth forecasts for the Panamanian economy and we are here to help. For us, financial inclusion is very important, promoting sustainable development with projects of the Public-Private Association”, Spicer pointed out.
President Cortizo Cohen was accompanied at the meeting by Eder Córdoba from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and Saleh Asvat, executive secretary of the Public-Private Association.
