“ANDo I’m tired of all those international exams our students do wrong. We are going to go with the PISA test, which I am sure will also go wrong”these were the words of the president of the republic regarding the quality of education in the official schools of the country and the poor preparation given to students.
I followedn the president in the ERCE test, Panama also came out “very badly”, but said he had hope in the Program for International Student Assessment (PISAfor its acronym in English), although he knows that we will come out deficient, he assures that the experience serves as a basis to know what are the steps that the educational system must follow in order to improve.
For Professor Humberto Montero, representative of the educators from Veragüense, these results are not surprising since on several occasions they have brought proposals to the Ministry of Education (Meduca) so that there is an improvement in the results of our students.
“We have said it many times, the curriculum has to be reviewed and to know what the contents are that the international tests bring,” he said, assuring that this was one of the proposals that the unions presented to Meduca.
The ERCE test is applied to measure the basic knowledge of primary school students, while the PISA is applied to secondary school students from the age of 15. In both tests Panama has obtained poor results.
It is expected that this 2022 Panama will be evaluated through these tests.
