“We did it this way because we want the people of Colon to know what is happening and what answers the president brings. That everything be transparent,” he said.
The Unity for Columbus Coalition (CUCO) agreed to meet with the President of the Republic Laurentino Cortizo, this after the president accepted the conditions stipulated by the leaders.
CUCO leader Edgardo Voitier explained that they gave the president of the republic two alternatives for the meeting to be held this afternoon, the first being an approach in an open area so that all colonenses could participate; however cortizo refused this option.
The other way in which the CUCO leaders would agree to meet with the government was for the talks to be witnessed by some media outlet, be it the National Television (SERTV) or some other individual. This was the option that the Cortizo president agreed to.
“We did it this way because we want the people of Colon to know what is happening and what answers the president brings. That everything be transparent,” he said.
Voitier explained, exclusively for Radio Panama, that the meeting will be held at the Abel Bravo school in the province of Colón and that it will be televised through SERTV, so they are only waiting for the president’s arrival to start the rapprochement. where they will expose the points by which Colon has remained paralyzed for 4 consecutive days.
During these demonstrations there have been clashes between demonstrators and members of the National Police. On the second day of protests, firearms were detonated, resulting in a seriously injured police officer who had to be rushed to a medical center in Panama City. The alleged perpetrator of this act was arrested the day after the incident was recorded.
