President Jair Bolsonaro confirmed his presence at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, in London, United Kingdom, next Monday (19).
“The invitation to the ceremony was sent, on Saturday night (10), to the Brazilian Embassy in London. When consulted on Sunday morning (11), the President of the Republic instructed Itamaraty to respond positively to the invitation,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
From there, Bolsonaro must travel directly to New York, in the United States, where he will participate in the opening of the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations. The event is scheduled for the 20th of September. Traditionally, the Brazilian president’s speech opens the conference.
Queen Elizabeth died last Thursday (8), aged 96, at Balmoral Palace, Scotland. On the same day, Bolsonaro declared three days of official mourning. On the occasion, the Brazilian president said that she was “a queen for all of us”.
“It is with great sorrow and emotion that Brazil receives the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, an extraordinary and singular woman, whose example of leadership, humility and love for her country will continue to inspire us and the whole world until the end of time,” he wrote on his social media.
Today, the coffin with the monarch’s body is in Edinburgh, the Scottish capital. After a ceremony at Saint Giles Cathedral, the venue will open for the public to pay their respects.
Tomorrow (13), Elizabeth’s body will be taken to London. There, he will pass through Buckingham Palace, Westminster Hall, where the Queen’s public funeral will take place, and finally Westminster Abbey, for the state funeral on the 19th. Windsor, which is on the outskirts of the British capital.
