The president of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, is on a tour in the north of the country to discuss measures to enhance security in the area. On that occasion, he spoke about the project that seeks to reduce the quorum to 4/7 in the event of constitutional reforms to the current Magna Carta, this in view of the exit plebiscite on September 4.
This proposal was presented by the senators of the Christian Democracy (DC) Matthias Walker Y Ximena Rinconin addition to the Independent (PPD quota), Peter Arayawhich has already added supporters, mainly from the Chile Vamos parties (UDI, RN and Evópoli).

Faced with the legislative advances that the norm has had (today it was reviewed in the Senate Constitution Commission), President Boric indicated in Third that “we have always said that the supra-majority quorums in the Constitution, not only today ad portas of the plebiscite, but 20 years ago – and the parliamentarians who are also pushing this project today know this very well -, it is necessary to lower them”.
In addition, he specified that the country is on the verge of a plebiscite that has two alternatives: “Approve the new Constitution or maintain the Constitution of 1980”, delimiting that as a Government they will guarantee the expression of both options.
Addressing the project presented by the parliamentarians, the head of state maintained that “parliamentaries have their legitimate right to promote initiatives, even though they have not done so in the last 20 years.”
Along these lines, the president hopes that the project “focuses on the content of the constitutional text that will be delivered to the country on July 4”, so that “we debate with high-mindedness regarding this process that, like any democratic process, does not has been free of debate and complications”.
Although, the President stated that the process “has a value that I at least rescue, and that is that the people of Chile have defined as never before in a democratic, equal manner, with the participation of indigenous peoples, the norms that should govern us.”
At the end, Boric pointed out that democracy will continue regardless of the result obtained on September 4, complementing that “what I can guarantee is that -whatever the result- my spirit and my work will be a meeting of Chileans to carry out all the reforms that are necessary to have a fundamental letter that unites us, and not a letter like today that divides us”
