The president of the Republic, gabriel boricissued this Friday a circular addressed to government institutions, in which it instructs to make available all fiscal land to be used in the construction of social housing.
This news was reported by the Ministers of the Interior and Public Security, Carolina Toha; of Housing and Urbanism, Carlos Montes; and National Assets, Javiera Toro; after participating in the last cabinet council held at the Palacio de La Moneda before the legislative recess.

Minister Tohá indicated that in order to comply with the Housing Emergency Plan, sufficient land is needed, so “today the President informed us that he has signed a circular that will be distributed to all the ministries and services of the State, including the Armed Forces, to make available the land we have”.
To remember that the Emergency Housing Plan contemplates the construction of 260,000 homes in the four years of the Government. The head of Housing, Carlos Montes, pointed out in Radio Bio Bio that the goal will not be able to resolve the deficit of more than 640,000 homes, but will help stop its increase.
Montes valued the President’s circular, but was emphatic that it should be done as soon as possible. Likewise, he specified that the studies have shown that the Armed Forces have 1,169 hectares with the possibility of using them for housing.
The Housing Emergency Plan needs a total of 3,519 hectares, of which, according to the head of the Minvu, 600 are missing, although he commented that they must leave land for the next governments to maintain a sustained line of housing construction.
Finally, the Minister of National Assets, Javiera Toro, stated that State land belongs to all Chileans, so they must be available to people’s needs,” and today the housing emergency is a true national challenge , a challenge for the whole of society, and we have to take charge of it together”.
