President Boric calls on parliamentarians who were about to cut budgets from human rights institutions: “It is painful and worrying”

Within the framework of the commemoration of International Human Rights Day, President Gabriel Boric issued a speech where he called for reflection and also sent a message to the political sectors that “put in check” the budget of the INDH and the Museum of Memory .

In this regard, the President said that “we are commemorating International Human Rights Day and it is a day that invites us to reflect on the values and inspirations that represent us.”

“It is important to understand that human rights are not a thing of the past, they are not a private ideology of a certain political sector,” added the head of state.

Along the same lines, Boric described as “painful” and “worrying” the political sectors that were about to cut budgets from institutions linked to human rights.

“It is painful and worrying to see how there are political sectors, in particular, unfortunately broad on the Chilean right, who were willing in the Budget discussion, to jeopardize not only the INDH budget, but also the budget of the Museum of Memory” he declared.

“Here it is supposed that one should be protocol in these things, but this does not fit in the protocol. It is not appropriate to question respect for human rights. It is not appropriate to play politically in petty, petty politics, with an issue that It is so important and it is the patrimony of all Chilean men and women, and of all humanity,” concluded Boric.
