President Gabriel Boric appointed this Friday the General of Aviation Hugo Rodriguez Gonzalez as the new commander in chief of the Chilean Air Force (FACh). Rodríguez will head the institution between November 5, 2022 and November 5, 2026.
“I just want to thank His Excellency the President of the Republic and the Minister of Defense for the appointment as well. I feel profound pride in commanding our institution, an Air Force for all Chileans,” said Rodríguez from La Moneda, accompanied by the Minister of Defense, maya fernandez.
“The objectives are going to be given within the framework of the Constitution and everything that the Government and the Ministry of Defense indicate to us, as an Air Force subordinate to the Ministry of Defense,” added the Aviation General.
General Rodríguez, 59, is a war pilot and developed his career as an operational pilot and helicopter instructor, carrying out missions in the South Pole, the Middle East and Haiti, the FACh said in a statement.
“Among his main positions, the following stand out: Commander of the Aviation Group No. 2, Commander of the Helicopter Unit in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti, Air Attaché in Brazil, Director of the Aviation School “Capitán Manuel Ávalos Prado”, Director of Intelligence and General Commander of the Santiago Air Garrison,” he added.
He currently serves as commander of the Personnel Command.
Rodríguez also has official studies of the General Staff of the Air War Academy; Engineer of Execution in Aeronautical Systems, war pilot mention of the Air War Academy; theoretical course on Black Hawk material in the United States and Combined Air Staff Exercise course in Argentina.
The change of command ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 5 at the El Bosque Air Base. In the instance, the current commander in chief, Air General Arturo Merino Nunezwill deliver your charge.
