President gabriel boric this Wednesday addressed the statements of the widow of the first corporal of the Carabineros Alex Salazar, Victorian Marly, who urged the President to “put on his pants” and said that he “would not receive it” at the official’s funeral. In this regard, the head of state said that he understands Victoriano’s words.
“As President, I finally have responsibility for the situation that is happening in Chile,” Boric said in conversation with Radio Pauline from Iquique, Tarapaca Region. “I understand the words of pain, frustration and anger that the corporal’s widow has and I can only sympathize with her,” he added.

In turn, he said that “In no case am I going to contradict her. I respect her position.”
“I spoke with the general (director of Carabineros, Ricardo) Yáñez. As soon as we found out about this outrage, we offered all the facilities and it does not correspond, it would be tremendously disrespectful on my part to try to argue with a feeling of pain from a mother, widow, with two children, who is suffering ”, he added.
Likewise, he reiterated that Carabineros “has our full support to be able to face these acts of crime with the rigor of the law.”
Regarding the person arrested for the death of Salazar, Boric said that “the full weight of the law will fall on him.”
Salazar’s death
Police personnel carried out an inspection of a liquor store in Concepción early Sunday morning, which was operating after hours. In this context, the people of the compound opposed the procedure and one of them, a 22-year-old Venezuelan, got into a vehicle and ran over Salazar.
After that, the first corporal was seriously admitted to the Concepción Regional Hospital. A medical examination carried out on Tuesday revealed that he was brain dead.
