President Jair Bolsonaro announced on his social media this Sunday (30) that he will go to Pernambuco to “better learn about the tragedy” caused by the rains in Greater Recife. At least 33 people died as a result of storms in the region until this Saturday (29).
In his post, he said that the federal government made available “from the first moment, all its means to help those affected, including the Armed Forces.” This Sunday, teams from the Ministry of Regional Development, the Ministry of Citizenship, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Health and the Armed Forces went to Greater Recife, with the participation of the ministers of the respective portfolios.
In Greater Recife alone, the number of people who died since Monday (23) as a result of the storms reached 33 yesterday afternoon. Of this total, 28 died in landslides that occurred between dawn and morning this Saturday (28). In a statement, the government of Pernambuco reported that the Operations Center of the Civil Defense Coordination of the State of Pernambuco received from the municipalities the registration of at least 516 homeless people and 249 homeless.
