President Luis Lacalle Pou, who attended the department of Soriano on Tuesday 19, to be part of the act of the 197th anniversary of the landing of the 33 Orientals on the Playa de la Agraciada, was consulted on various issues at a press conference in which participated along with other authorities.
Asked by the media about re-election in Uruguay, the president replied that not now, because if a country is going to discuss whether it believes in re-election or not, what it could not have is expensive. What do I mean by this? Suppose there are Uruguayans who want re-election. Well, it couldn’t be for the next re-election. It would have to be for the other. As is done in most countries where this topic is discussed, if it doesn’t have a first and last name.” He added that “I have too many occupations to be dedicating myself to a re-election”, and added “countries always find presidents with other characteristics for other times in the country”.
Even so, he maintained that the issue is not on the table today: “I am a re-electionist, I believe in re-election, but I do not agree to do it now; but conceptually I am a re-electionist. Two periods and outside and dancing, but it is not a discussion for now in the country.
