With a recognition for his contributions to the tourism sector in the province of Puerto Plata from the members of the Tourist Press Association (Adompretur), President Luis Abinader concluded his day of activities this Saturday in “La Novia del Atlántico”.
Now, this Sunday, the president will continue his tour of the province of Samaná.
The recognition as “Supreme Tourism 2021”was delivered to the president by the board of directors of Adompretur subsidiary Puerto Plata, for the contributions to strengthening the tourism sector during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Thanks to these decisions, today the country has 14 billion dollars in Central Bank reserves, figures never seen before,” said the president upon receiving the award.
Visit exhibition the year of freedom 1961
The president also highlighted the fundamental role of the people of Puerto Plata in establishing freedom and democracy in the country by leading the exhibition, “The year of freedom 1961”.
“The Internal Front was organized here, the first large clandestine organization of resistance to Trujillo within the country, which sought to give support and stand up together with the armed expeditions that landed in these lands,” said the president.
Abinader highlighted the patriotic sentiment of the people of Puerto Plata, where he outlined the exceptional case of Miguel Feliú Arseno, the only Dominican who participated in three armed expeditions against Trujillo.
“He was present in the Cayo Confites expedition, which was the first military effort to overthrow Trujillo; then he joined and arrived in the Luperón deed of 1949, where he survived, was arrested and exiled again. And in June 1959, he returned once again for Constanza, along with his companions from the Dominican Liberation Army, full of patriotism, in love with a pure ideal, lighting the august flame of freedom,” said the president.
Abinader announced that starting in 2024, every May 30, a minute of silence will be established in state institutions in memory of the victims of the Trujillo dictatorship.
From 8:00 in the morning, it must be carried out in the institutions of the Dominican State, military and police installations, and in school buildings and public offices in general.
“Today we need more social justice and more universal coverage of all the democratic rights enshrined in our constitution,” he concluded.

The president led the start of renovation work on Sosúa Beach, a work in which more than RD$600 million will be invested. In addition, a comprehensive plan was reported with the support of Unicef and the Pnud, for the de-urbanization of the municipality, the authorities indicated.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, added that RD$300 million will be invested for the internationalization of the Puerto Plata city brand and RD$150 million to renovate the Historic Center.
In support of tourism and promotion of Dominican cultural roots, the head of state led the first pie of the San Felipe Market that will have a private investment from the Dominican Tourist Entertainment trust of more than 1,000 million pesos.
Abinader also inaugurated the remodeling of the Puerto Plata air base, where he said he will continue to dignify Dominican soldiers.
Long Night of the Museums
The head of state inaugurated the Long Night of the Museums, with the intention that attendees can enjoy a playful billboard and educational activities from 10:00 in the morning until midnight.
There will be cultural demonstrations of animation, dance and theater presentations, living statues with costumes alluding to the colonial era, among other activities.
In these will participate the San Felipe Fortress Museum, Amber Museum, Renewal Cultural Society, Jewish Museum, Sosúa House of Art, Iván García Theater School and the Gregorio Luperón Museum.
Inaugurates Center for Technological Operations of the 9-1-1 System
Also in the afternoon, the president inaugurated the Technological Operations Center of the National System for Attention to Emergencies and Security 9-1-1, in Puerto Plata, to reinforce citizen security.
This center will optimize response times, prioritizing video surveillance, which will impact the municipalities of Sosúa, Cabarete, Imbert, Luperón, Altamira and Montellano, as well as radio communications that will improve the coverage and quality of this service with response institutions such as the Service National Health (SNS), the National Police and the Fire Department.
He also held a meeting with young entrepreneurs from Puerto Plata
The President Abinader He held a lunch with around 300 young entrepreneurs from the province of Puerto Plata on Saturday afternoon, where he heard about their growth experiences in their respective areas.
Delivery of housing to vulnerable families
As part of the Dominican Plan Rebuilds, Administrative Deputy Minister Igor Rodríguez and Housing Minister Carlos Bonilla delivered new homes to 10 low-income families in the El Javillar sector.
At the national level, the plan has intervened in more than 26,000 units, of which more than 7,600 correspond to the northern region and some 230 to the province of Puerto Plata.
Likewise, the president provided social assistance through the project, First you, in which more than 15 state institutions offered assistance to hundreds of Puerto Plata families.
At the sports center, hundreds of organized fishermen received Supérate cards and Senasa insurance.
