President Abinader travels to the UN where he will deal with the crisis in Haiti

President Abinader travels to New York today to participate in the 80th UN General Assembly

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican President, Luis Abinader, He left on Monday to New York to participate in the United Nations General Assembly, where he will reiterate before the international community the crisis situation in Haiti and the consequences for his country as a neighboring nation.

Abinader will talk to the UN on Wednesday and that that same day he will return to the Dominican Republic, the president himself reported in an unusual meeting with the media in which he just offered details of his agenda.

Prior to this, he will meet with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to deal with the crisis in Haiti.

Abinader also said that he will meet in New York with the King of Jordan, Abdalá II Bin Al-Hussein, and with the executive director of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Qu Qu.

The Dominican president revealed last week that the conversation with Rubio will deal with the “new vision” that the administration of the US president, Donald Trump, has on how to face the situation of insecurity and disorder of all the orders of the Haitian activities because of the armed bands.

He recalled that for the Dominican Republic the Haitian issue is “fundamental” within its foreign policy.

In recent years, Haiti has been the epicenter of his speech before the UN General Assembly. This Monday, the Dominican Chancellor, Roberto Álvarez, urged the Security Council of the United Nations Organization to approve a new security mission for neighboring Haiti, plunged into a serious crisis for years that has left thousands of dead.

The Dominican official made this approach during his participation in a meeting at the UN with the Undersecretary of American State, Christopher Landau, and with the president of Kenya, William Ruto, a country that leads the multinational mission of security support (MSS) in Haiti.

In Haiti, only in the second quarter of the year, some 1,520 people died and 609 were injured, mainly in the Metropolitan Zone of Puerto Príncipe and mostly perpetrated by criminal gangs, according to data from the UN Integrated Office in the country (Binhu, for its acronym in French).
