President Abinader swears in Antoliano Peralta as Minister of Justice and Jorge Subero Isa as Legal Consultant

Santo Domingo.– The president Luis Abinader swore this Tuesday to Antoliano Peralta as Minister of Justice now Jorge Subero Isa as Legal Consultant of Executive powerduring an event held in the Ambassadors Hall of the National Palace.

With these appointments, the president reinforces strategic areas of the Government linked to institutional strengthening, respect for the rule of law and the consolidation of the justice system.

During the event, the sworn Minister of Justice, Antoliano Peralta, thanked President Abinader for the trust placed in him to assume key responsibilities for the State’s institutions and expressed his satisfaction that the work carried out by the Legal Consulting Office of the Executive Branch continues under the direction of a figure of recognized moral stature such as Jorge Subero Isa.

Peralta highlighted that the Ministry of Justice constitutes a fundamental piece within the system of separation of powers in the Dominican Republic, by assuming functions that, in accordance with the Constitution and the laws, correspond to the Executive Branch and that were historically linked to the Judicial Branch.

In his statements, he explained that the Ministry of Justice was born with the Republic and that, for historical reasons, it was dissolved for the last time during the period of government known as the Triumvirate, so its reestablishment responds to a long-awaited desire of Dominican society.

When referring to the main powers of the new institution, he announced that the national penitentiary system will be coordinated and supervised by the Ministry of Justice, after having been irregularly under the regency of the Public Ministry. Likewise, he pointed out that the coordination of the human rights system and compliance with the country’s national and international commitments in this matter will be direct responsibilities of that ministry.

Likewise, he indicated that the Ministry of Justice will be in charge of coordinating the defense of the Dominican State against legal claims, through the organization of a Public Administration Defense Office, with the aim of facing in a structured manner the processes that have historically generated significant losses for the State.

Finally, Antoliano Peralta thanked all those who have trusted in his management and reiterated his recognition to President Abinader, while expressing his hope of meeting the expectations placed in this new institutional stage.

Meanwhile, Subero Isa expressed his firm commitment to contributing to the strengthening of ethics, honesty and crime prevention from the Legal Consulting Office of the Executive Branch, after being appointed by President Abinader to occupy that position.

Subero Isa stated that, within the limits established by the law and regulations, he will work jointly with the corresponding authorities so that officials of the Executive Branch act in accordance with the fundamental principles of ethics and transparency.

He also highlighted that prevention must be a central axis of public management, pointing out that “the cleanest city is the one that does not get dirty, the country where there is the least crime is not where it is punished the most, but where it is not committed.”

Likewise, he thanked President Abinader for the trust placed in him and recognized the work of his predecessor, the jurist Antoliano Peralta Romero, whom he defined as a great official and friend, highlighting that his experience and reputation constitute a valuable contribution to the administration of justice from the Ministry of Justice.
