Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader received on Wednesday the credentials of eight new ambassadors accredited in the country, representing Paraguay, Chile, Lebanon, Guinea Bissau, Angola, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Armenia.
Two of these diplomats, the representatives of Chile and Paraguay, are based in the Dominican Republic, and the remaining six are concurrent based in Venezuela, Cuba, Washington and Canada.
The protocol ceremony was held in the Ambassadors Hall of the National Palace, where the head of state was accompanied by the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Álvarez.
As part of the protocol, at the beginning of the act, on the esplanade of the National Palace, the notes of the Dominican National Anthem were interpreted, and at the end, the anthems of each country represented by the new ambassadors were heard.
The first to present his credentials was Enrique Luis Insfran Miranda from the Republic of Paraguay, who currently serves as president of the National Boundary Demarcation Commission (CNDL). He has also served as first secretary at the Embassy of Paraguay in Los Angeles California and as vice consul at the Consulate General of Paraguay in New York.
Next, Axel Eduardo Cabrera Martínez from the Republic of Chile, who during his career has served in the embassies of Chile, Brazil and Venezuela, presented his credentials. In addition, he was stationed at the Permanent Representation of Chile before the ALADI, in Montevideo, and currently works as Minister Counselor at the Embassy of Chile, in France.
Subsequently, Elías Lebbos from the Republic of Lebanon appeared. He has held positions of ambassador in Caracas and for the Caribbean Islands and as head of the Lebanese Delegation at the XVII Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
María de Lourdes Batista M. Taborda Embaló presented her credentials for the Republic of Guinea Bissau, who has been general director of foreign policy at the Ministry of Foreign Business, International Cooperation and Communities.
The new representative of the Republic of Angola will be María Cândida Pereira Teixeira, who has served as Minister of Education of her country until 2019.
The Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka will be represented by Lakshita Pradeep Ratnayake. Before taking up the post of ambassador, he was director of management and development of assets abroad, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Shahidul Islam, who is a career diplomat and served as Secretary General of BIMSTEC, presented himself for the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. In addition, he is Ambassador to France with concurrent accreditation to Romania, Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, and Cameroon, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to UNESCO, and is currently Ambassador to the United States, concurrently accredited to Belize, Colombia, Guyana, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
In the end, Anahit Harutyunyan from the Republic of Armenia, who is also a representative for Canada and Cuba, presented his credentials.
