President Abinader inaugurates tourist boulevard in El Morro de Montecristi

With an investment that exceeds 20 million pesos, President Luis Abinader inaugurated this Monday a tourist boulevard in El Morro national park, in Monteristi.

The work, built by the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources with funds from the Reserve Bank, leads visitors to the Zapato and offers access to the beach, with a length of 190.

The project consists of an eco-friendly path, a parking area, with 27 parking spaces, which includes spaces for buses and for people with disabilities.
It has sanitary facilities with bathroom cabins for general use.

It also has a 315-square-meter square for activities, a 200-square-meter camping area, a 140-square-meter cafeteria and a picnic. In addition, work was carried out on the readjustment of the Protection and Surveillance Center.

Likewise, the project was equipped with signage and information panels alluding to the area, to keep users informed and awaken in them the awareness of making sustainable use of the environment.

President Abinader indicated that this work is part of the objectives of his management to develop tourism while protecting the environment.

During his speech, the ruler reported on the investment made by the government in Montecristi.

He assured that this border province will become a tourist and industrial pole with the Manzanillo project.

The president announced the construction of the Montecristi boardwalk and the reconstruction of the central park of that municipality.

Orlando Jorge Mera, Minister of the Environment, stressed that the intervention in El Morro is part of the objectives of conditioning the country’s protected areas to maximize the experience of contact with nature for everyone who visits these parts of the national territory.

In a second stage, the placement of the terminals and the signs that limit the national park will be completed, said Jorge Mera.

“In addition, we are going to readjust the old path that gives access to the highest part of El Morro, as well as the fitting out of a new camping area to be located at the eastern end,” announced the minister.

He explained that, in addition to the infrastructure inaugurated, this area has invested in the planting of more than 300 trees of the species of guayacán, maguey, aloe, beach grape and saona, among others.

Samuel Pereyra, from the Reserve Bank, and Nelsy Cruz, governor of Montecristi also spoke at the event. The blessing was in charge of the Catholic priest Lucas Núñez.
