Dajabón, Dominican Republic. – President Luis Abinader delivered this Sunday two renovated sports facilities with a total investment of 43.5 million pesos in this border province, which will benefit hundreds of children, young people and adults in different disciplines and genders.
The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, accompanied the president at the handover ceremonies of the Dajabón Sports Center, as well as the space shared by the Club House and the volleyball court of the main municipality.

These works are part of the program for the construction and reconstruction of sports facilities (multipurpose indoors) carried out by the Dominican Government through the Ministry of Sports throughout the national geography.
Cruz expressed his pride in fulfilling this assignment from the president: “A few days after the president appointed me as Minister of Sports, I received a message from him showing the poor conditions in which this complex was located, suburbanized, abandoned and very destroyed. But today, a year later, we have a sports center that will be used and will benefit everyone, since it will be used for religious activities, neighborhood association meetings, among other important things.”
He added that “today, with this delivery of this model sports center, with a court, its clock and professional board certified by FIBA, and two dressing rooms, we accomplished what we set out to do a year ago.”
President Abinader presided over the inauguration ceremony and cut the ribbon to make the delivery official. The Vice Minister of Sports, Kennedy Vargas, was present; the president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Garibaldi Bautista; the senator of Dajabón, Manuel María Rodríguez; Mayor Santiago Riberón Arias; Governor Severina Gil; and deputy Toni Bengoa.
The Dajabón sports center received improvements in offices, bathrooms, athletes’ locker rooms, cafeteria and outdoor areas.
Repairs to metal structures, installation of aluzinc, metal gutters and downspouts, construction of a multipurpose room and general painting were also carried out.
Likewise, a FIBA board was placed in the playing area, two FIBA board supports, a digital board, 24-second clocks, seats and electrical installations. The amount invested was 32,336,238.94 pesos.
On the other hand, the Dajabón Club House and the volleyball court received improvements that include the construction of the court area, a concrete floor, supply and placement of volleyball posts and mesh, construction of stands, the Club House, general painting and placement of electrical installations. The amount invested in this work was 11,205,197.34 pesos.
