SANTO DOMINGO.- President Luis Abinader had to return to the ground 17 minutes after the plane in which he was traveling to Argentina took off because it presented an electrical fault.
The president’s entourage returned to the San Isidro Air Base, from where it had initially taken off, later they flew to the Punta Cana airport in the presidential helicopter to change planes there.
A security source informed EL DÍA that after the plane in which the president was traveling took off, one of the aircraft’s electrical outlets, in the passenger area, suffered a short circuit that, although it did not affect the airworthiness of the aircraft, the protocols called for landing, which the crew did.
Abinader changed planes and at 6:50 in the afternoon resumed his trip to Argentina where he will participate in the Summit of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) that begins tomorrow in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina.
The president is accompanied by José Ignacio Paliza, Vice Foreign Minister Rubén Silié, his assistants Mercedes Pichardo and Eylin Beltrán and the director of the Presidential Security Corps, General Jimmy García.
It is a rented plane with American registration that had taken off from the San Isidro air base. After suffering the damage, the aircraft returned and landed without inconvenience.
